Eclectic Mid-Century Dining Room

Once we started renovating our kitchen, it because evident that our dining room was going to need some love. The kitchen and dining room are open to each other, so they needed to have the same feel. What we had in this space was pretty but what we were able to create feels like home. Come on it and take a look!

When we first moved in, the space was pretty blank. The 16ft built-in china cabinet was there, a beautiful chandler hung but all the trim was cream and the wall looked like a flesh colored paint. Don't even get me started on the carpet.

Let's walk down memory lane...

Two years after we moved in, the space was bright and cheery. It was pretty yet it was almost too pretty for my taste.

At this point, we had painted all the trim (including the china cabinet) and painted the walls. Those things alone helped so much!

Fast forward another two years and we are finishing up with our kitchen renovation. As we were working on that space (which is open to this dining space), I had slowly started tweaking the dining room.

I thrifted a table, reupholstered two of the chairs that I had in the original dining space, switched out a few other chairs and suddenly the space started to feel closer to what I had envisioned.

I went back and forth on the chandelier. The original chandelier is jaw dropping. It's seriously amazing but I felt like it not quite a fit for my space. So it got an amazing new home (at my Mom's house) and we went for this new modern one.

Having hardwood flooring installed throughout the main floor helped the flow from one space to the next. The hubs and I installed wallpaper for the first time in the dining room and I think that really helped with the vibe of the space too. The wallpaper install was relatively easy! See our full tutorial here if you are interested!

As you can tell, we sold a few of the pieces that we had in the blue/white dining room so we were able to make the changes to the space to make it feel cohesive with the kitchen.

A new rug was brought in, our bar cart found a home, plants helped brighten up the space and a new piece of art now flanks the wallpapered wall.

The space really feels like home now and I'm so pleased with how it flows with the rest of the floor plan. What do you think?
