DIY Ruffled Kitchen Towel

Having a new kitchen island (see photos here:http://www.melissaellensloft.com/2014/01/23/3928/) inspired me to make a new kitchen towel, and I saw this one over at pottery barn and used it for inspiration!

For a complete material list and more details, check out my tutorial here: http://www.melissaellensloft.com/2014/01/27/ruffled-kitchen-towel-tutorial/
Fold the sides of the fabric in toward the center 1/2 inch and iron over the fold to press it in place.
Fold the edges of the 48″x17″ piece of fabric in toward the center 1/2″ as well on all four sides and iron the folds to press in place as done with the ruffle strip.
Sew along each of the four sides of the 24″/17″ towel piece at 1/4″ from the outer edge.
Sew along the two long edges of the ruffle strip at 1/4″ from the edge as well to create a hem.
Now you will begin to sew on your ruffle. At 3″ from the bottom of your towel, place one end of your ruffle strip along one side of your towel and place your presser foot down.
scrunch up the ruffle strip in front of your presser foot and hold with your left hand. Slowly begin to sew along the scrunched ruffle and continue to pause and scrunch as you go
once you are finished sewing on the ruffle, cut the thread and there you go! A new kitchen towel!
