How to Make Your Own Antiques... From New Crafts

Say that you really love everything old looking and distressed. And you were sent into a craft store for supplies. What do you think a junker type would gravitate towards?
Well!! I had a theme within seconds in Michaels . I collected a cute little crate, some twine, the sweetest aqua mason jars in the land, and set about making an antique display for a window sill.
The secret's in the paint... here are my tips on making new look old!

This cute little display holds a secret... the main elements are brand new!
Aging new rims on these mason jars was as easy as adding a few layers of paint. Start with black, dry brush with brown, add white and work it until you get the look right.
To distress the crate, paint white, sand edges, beat it up some, then apply a glaze overtop so all the knicks stand out.
Adding some rope handles is easy! Drill some holes in a crate...
... and insert rope or twine. More details can be found on the blog post link below the pictures.
I'll be demo-ing these techniques at Michaels Abbotsford BC on Feb 16th... along with 99 others! Check a Michaels near you for a demo in your area!
