How can I update my formica or laminate cabinets?

My kitchen cabinets are from 1984. Not sure if formica and laminate are one in the same.

Pinterest has hundreds of ideas for this. People have done concrete, spray paint and I've even seen people use contact paper.
You can use mineral fusion paint or chalk paint so you don't have to try and sand them. You just clean them well and paint. They will both adhere well. Then just seal with a polycrylic. You can change out the hardware, as well, for an updated look.

Look into chalk paint, no prep needed, then if you add liming wax it gives it a nice washed look.
