Hello Shelia; I honestly would not attempt to lay down tile, over a laminate countertop. due to the fact that the laminate can lift, and warp.
Your best course of action would be to remove the laminate, and put down a sheet of plywood. I would then tile on the plywood, sheet!
If you need help, I would also suggest that you use a Friend, or a Handyman.
Aside from this; Ron Hazelton has a method, in which he shows what Armen Tavy does. He uses a mastic and fiberglass reinforced paper mat which makes the surface into one that can be tiled by using standard thin mortar.
I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!
I use scrunched up tin foil and water - works a treat!

You will have to " rough it up" for maximum adhesion. Rough sandpaper quickly and lightly run over it...doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg buying a sander, just enough so you can feel it.
yes you can and it stays nice too
yes, but follow the directions. Counters should be very clean & dry.
Yes, there are a lot of how to videos available with step-by-step instructions. Have fun!!
I had a professional tile over my laminate countertop. It looked great for a couple of years, then the bullnose put around the edge kept chipping and some of it actually fell off. I eventually took it all off and replaced with laminate again. I'm just not a real big fan of ceramic tile anywhere.
