Companies like Giani, Daich and Rustoleum make kits for refinishing your countertop to look like (faux) granite. Here's a a DIY Network how-to: http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/rooms-and-spaces/kitchen/how-to-paint-laminate-kitchen-countertops
For an even quicker option you can also apply peel-and-stick film to your existing counters, like this black granite example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006KC4YPY/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_SXEJzbGP34TCH
Good luck, and I hope you'll post before and after pics!
Rustoleum Transformer paint.
my artistic son covered his Formica counters with contact paper. it looked great and lasted for years and years.
heHome Depot online sells a counter refinishing kit by Daisch Coatings there are several color options available and when finished your counters have the appearance of stone, granite or marble depending on the kit you choose. The stone option is very simple and very easy to do it is a simple process and the kit comes with everything you need for around 125 dollars. You rough the surface with 80 grit sand paper apply the base color after it dries you apply the stone coating after it has dried you sand it with 120 grit sand paper Until u get the texture and amount of stone showing that suits your taste you then vacuum up the dust and wipe the counters down then you apply the clear coat protective coating and allow it to dry. It completely cures in about 7 days but you can go back to light use after the clear coat has dried after 24 hours The kit also comes with written instructions and a DVD that shows the step by step process This kit can be done in a weekend and gives you a beautiful durable new counter top. I used it on mine to get rid of outdated faux marble Formica. It was so easy that I thought I have to be doing this wrong it can't be this easy, but surprisingly it was. Several people who have visited my home have asked if I installed new stone or granite counter tops and were shocked when I told them no and that it was done with a refinishing kit. Lastly, if you are choosing to use one of the spread stone kits any amateur can get a beautiful result so don't let fear stop you. If you rather have the marble look you may need to have a little artistic eye so the veining looks realistic.
We took Epoxy resin and coated the surface with 1/8" of the resin. Immediately using various colors of spray paint we created a marbled design in the epoxy and 24 hours later added a 2nd coat of epoxy. Everyone is just crazy over how it turned out. Only took several hours to create and it's a surface that withstands heat, scratches etc.
Rustoleum makes a good product called Counter Transformations.
i used melamine paint when I did mine but not sure what the equivalent is now since they no longer sell that kind. Ask at the paint store. Great thing about paint is if you don't like it u can just paint over it with something else?
