Probably has to do with the weather and also the types of flowers and bushes you have in your garden. I have noticed that the population of the butterflies has diminished since last year and not sure why, but you can add more butterfly bushes, Altheas, Roses etc that the butterflies like. Hope this helps

Butterflies are disappearing cause their habitat is disappearing due to man, and in the case of monarchs the eradication of milkweed. You can help by planting milkweed for monarchs along their migration routes. Other butterflys need specific flowers.... http://www.gardeners.com/how-to/attracting-butterflies-hummingbirds/7265.html

Butterflies 🦋 will come if you plant, plants that will attract them. I planted several butterfly bushes and the butterflies love my lantana flowers. I have had beautiful butterflies this summer.

Make sure that you have water for butterflies. Have a container with shallow water. Put small rocks, not pebbles, so the butterflies can land to get a drink. Make sure to keep fresh water.
