Best time to split the peony bush is in the fall this way you can transplant it and it will have time to take root before winter sets in. Good luck
usually in the fall
late spring or mid summer is ok, be sure to put dirt back in hole and protect the "mother" plant roots

Hello Paul, Wait until Fall to split them. That way they are done growing for this season. Have the new hole already dug before you split them. When the plant starts going dormant for the winter, you should cut it down to the soil line. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
