When I got a negative ion generator the first time, my boston ferns that had always been a problem, grew like nuts to the floor without a brown tip on them. Bonus is it removes dust, pollen, and allergans from the air too. I have Ionic Breeze generators in each room.

I got my Ionic Breeze machines by searching Goodwills and pick up quite a few for myself and my clients. I have the large one in my living room and a little one in my bedroom. When you wipe off the blades, you will see its working i.e. coated with dust and grime. Totally quiet.

Some people mist their houseplants with water in a spray bottle if they need more humidity... I do it in the winter sometimes when the furnace is on.
