When I got a negative ion generator the first time, my boston ferns that had always been a problem, grew like nuts to the floor without a brown tip on them. Bonus is it removes dust, pollen, and allergans from the air too. I have Ionic Breeze generators in each room.

Ok so it was bc you had high humidity? I was reading that is high humidity that start to cause the lil gnats nd aphids bc the water takes longer to evaporate so soil stays wet a humidifier or a dehumidifier ? What is the ion generator?

Living in Seattle you shouldn't have to worry about humidity. A negative ion generator generates negative ions ....negative ions are plentiful at the coast and in the mountains thats why you feel better. An air ioniser (or negative ion generator is a device that uses high voltage to ionise (electrically charge) air molecules. Negative ions, or anions, are particles with one or more extra electrons, conferring a net negative charge to the particle.

In high enough concentrations, negative ions clear the air of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, odors, cigarette smoke, bacteria, viruses, dust and other hazardous airborne particles. They do this by attaching to these positively charged particles in large numbers.

I got my Ionic Breeze machines by searching Goodwills and pick up quite a few for myself and my clients. I have the large one in my living room and a little one in my bedroom. When you wipe off the blades, you will see its working i.e. coated with dust and grime. Totally quiet.

Some people mist their houseplants with water in a spray bottle if they need more humidity... I do it in the winter sometimes when the furnace is on.
