What can I do with hated kitchen tile counter and splash?

My hate my counter and splash back which is two tone blue tile. I cannot keep the grout clean for any length of time. Would love to have a solid counter - granite or other. Would the tile have to be removed first? Any other suggestions?

Could you do a concrete counter top over the existing? I've seen that popping up online and it looks pretty cool. Also, there is a grout whitener product out there that seems to work pretty well.

We had ugly tile kitchen counter and black splash too and we found an adhesive in the tile aisle of Lowes and was able to glue down tile on top of tile with no grout lines and it loos like a solid slab. We didn't remove any tile before we started and we haven't had any problems so far.

If you hate both of them then go ahead and replace both at the same time. The countertop will be a large investment than the backsplash. If you just plan to replace the countertop, then the tile backsplash can get damaged at the bottom layer of tiles so I would plan on replacing both at the same time.
