I'm sure there are other bird enthusiast here so I thought I would share my take on the easiest bird feeder ever!
I started with a piece of bark with a little bit of curve to it. I washed it with just plain hose water. Next, I peeled the label off of an empty plastic rum bottle ( we drink the cheap stuff here) and cleaned off the excess glue with some soapy water. I cut the bottle's bottom off with a utility knife. Then I salvaged a few screws from hubby's stash and screwed the plastic bottle into the bark.
You want to screw at least one screw into the bottle towards the top (bottom of the bottle, top of the"feeder"). Then I used the piece of bottle that I cut off to make the base of the feeder bowl. I screwed a nail in to hold it to the bark.
Next I used a length of twine and placed it behind the bottle and under the screw from the bottle to be used as a hook for hanging the feeder.
  1. Final step is to hang your feeder and fill it with birdseed. I used another piece of bark to stabilize the screwed in "bowl" and make an added perch for the birds...
Suggested materials:
  • Bark   (Wood pile)
  • 2 screws, 2 inches long   (Hubby's stash)

A real nice idea. One question, shouldn't it have a top or cover of some sort to keep out rain?

I mentioned in my comment, shouldn't it have a cover of some sort to keep out the rain or snow? This is certainly a unique idea and so "bird" friendly!
