Ice-maker Not Working

Jenn-Air fridge w ice-maker in bottom freezer. The ice-maker started leaking water and seemed like it emptied then stopped leaking. Then it filled again with water, and started to make cubes but stopped in the middle of rotating them out. Then they melted or receded. The temp in the freezer seemed fine when this was happening - set to 0 - but perhaps it was not giving me the right temp?

The ice-maker no longer works. It seems to be filled with frozen water but won't flip the cubes out.

I tested the temp with a thermometer - it reads 12 degrees (but think below 10 the thermometer goes haywire) but thermostat on freezer reads 0.

Trying to figure out if I need to replace the ice-maker, water pump, themorstat or some other part. Or do I just need to defrost and start over? Any ideas of what I should do before I give up and call a pro?
Post-leak, half-formed cubes visible in ice-maker
About an hour later cubes appear to be melting. A week later, there is still ice in the maker but it's no longer visible.

  • Do you still have your owners manuel? If not, go on line and see what troubleshooting is available for your model - then if you still are unable to make a proper determination, then call in the repair service. Could just be the mechanism that flips them out - chances are they may not sell just that part, but it never hurts to look.

you need to defrost the freezer. it looks like the pieces are frozen.. fin the hole at the bottom of the freezer. Use a turkey baster with HOT WATER and squirt in hole to clean it out. This happens to me about once every 2 years. That's all it takes.

Had same problem. Replaced ice maker-worked some but still would leak water onto floor occasionally. Had repairman out several times after that. (Replaced w/ new refrigerator (not JennAir.)

Repairman took it to discover cause for himsef. Turned out, when we had had to replace condenser?, the folks sent from warranty co filled it with too much Freeon.

The fellow who made this discovery, said he would have had to charge me $1000 to repair.

You need to call the manufacturer and ask for technical assistance. When my computer screen on my fridge stopped working I called for help and they took me through all of the steps while I was on the phone and the problem was fixed without costing me a penny!

Thanks. The funny thing is it seems like the ice maker is actually working, but it's taking about a week for it to make one set of cubes.

I would defrost the freezer completely.

Check to be sure that the ice holder has been completely pushed back into place. Also check the rubber gasket around the freezer door to sure it is intact.
