How to make my old dining room light fixture look french cottage

If I paint it white and add pearls, crystal clear beads and blue beads and crystal droplets, would that be too tacky? Would that be French cottage? Any suggestions are welcomed.

French "cottages" don't usually have the glamorous chandeliers, I don't think. But a beautiful chandelier with real crystals that sparkle the light is a very very pretty thing. Keep the materials as light catching as possible i think. If you still want the pearls and blue, you could drape them to see how you like it before you wire them in place.
