Can I grow elephant ear plants in NC?
All my neighbors have large elephant ear plants but when I try to grow them they die. Any suggestions ?
Most of Ohio is Zone 6a, so you should be able to. I live on the far western edge of Pennsylvania and heather does well here, since our soil is pretty acidic. If rhododendrons and azaleas thrive where you live, you probably have acid soil too. Just make sure the heather gets at least partial sun (about 6 hours of sunlight per day).
I live in SE Minnesota and heather is a perennial here. I have neighbors that have it and my moms building has it. I wish I could, but nowhere but the top of our second tier has enough sun, so it wouldn't be in a spot where a person could appreciate the plants. The hill to the tiers are very steep and the dogs(4) and my veggie garden are the only things that spend much time up their. I go up once a day for an hour or so if the mosquitoes don't eat me first!
You should be able to...I am in zone 5 (southwestern Ontario) and grow it quite successfully
Close enough to Scotland's latitude, so, yes
thanks to everyone for my answer to heather
