Dig them up before Frost and store them in a dry cool place. Replant in the spring.

We live in Texas, so we wrap bulbs in newspaper, put them in a plastic box with a lid, and keep it in the bottom of the fridge. 😇

I live in the northeast and I just dig them up, shake off excess dirt and store them in a cardboard box in my basement.

depends on where you live and if they are in the ground or a container. in zone 9 just leave them alone, if they die back, trim the dead stuff and wait tile spring. any place where the ground may freeze, dig them up and store in a cool dry place. in containers, put them where the media in the containers will not freeze. they may die back but will be back. they are really quite tough.

I leave mine in the ground. Once the leaves die off, I cut all of that off. My cannas come back year after year and multiply like crazy. I've had mine in the ground for 10 years or more. Even when we get a good freeze, I just leave them alone. They haven't disappointed me yet.

My dad had them for years. Before the first frost he dug them up, cut off foliage and put the rest into a bucket of dirt and stored them in the garage. Minimal heat but i.e. was an attached garage. After mothers day each year he planted what he had stored in the buckets

Yes. I dig them when they have just a bit of frost bite on the leaves, remove the foliage, clean them off and store them in an old crate in my basement.

Actually, @DianaSaundersBlank is correct. We don't need to dig up cannas. Calla, or several other bulbs. But sometimes I do. If I have to dig up tulips, glads, or anything else, I usually dig them all up, and try to remember to label each bundle. I tried leaving tulips in the ground, but the next year I only had a couple of tulips to bloom. And not everybody is fortunate enough as to live in the South. 😇

    I live in zone 8...Alabama

I have bunches of them and never dig them up or cut them back...they multiply year after year and are gorgeous! I don't do anything to them!

I leave mine in the ground every year. After frost, cover the area with at least one foot of fall leave. They come back in the spring!

    Easy!

After frost, remove bull from ground and shake off excess dirt, cut tops off to 4", let dry a day or two in sun if possible and place loosly in cardboard box or other large container and add vermiculite. Store in basement or cellar where it does not freeze. Replant in spring when danger of frost is past. You will notice new growth appearing even before you plant.
