Best easy idea I have seen was to recycle Tidy Cat litter buckets with an added cushion top. Bucket doubles as personal storage space....child's name could be added to each one. No splinters, safe and cheap! Of course this works for just very young kids.
Or 5 gallon buckets available at Menards , home depot / lowes... and add a pillow/ cushion to the top, can decorate with paint, colored tape or contact paper.
