Hi Annie :) Well, everywhere I look I keep seeing salt and lemon, salt and lime, salt and vinegar, so I guess it just means salt and some sort of acidy liquid to clean it (along with some elbow grease, of course). The link below has one other mixture that can be used. Remember, however, that copper will not remain bright and shiny indefinitely (my mom has copper plates hanging in her kitchen that need taking care of almost monthly, and by the time we get around to them they are fairly bad). Good Luck and thanks for using Hometalk.

Copper is a never-ending battle. My copper-bottom Revereware pots/pans have been polished with every washing for 62 years. Bar Keepers Friend is MY friend!
Hello Annie; There are several ways to clean Copper!!!!!
You can use regular Ketchup to clean copper with. Cover the items with ketchup and let sit. wash off with warm water after an hour.
Also, you can pour white vinegar and salt over copper.
Scrub and rinse with warm water.
Place one Tablespoon of salt and a cup of white vinegar into a pot. Boil until the tarnish comes off.
You can juice a whole Lemon and used the same amount of table salt to form a paste.
I personally use the Ketchup method.
I hope that these hints will help you!!!! Take Care!
i use copper glow from grocery store. My friend wraps her silver in saran wrap when not in use.
Try ketchup. No kidding! Works fast with no need for elbow grease. Just apply a thin layer to entire copper surface and leave on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse. Good luck!
