How do you smooth out a rough ceiling. Thicker than a popcorn ceiling
My husband did this ceiling years ago and now I want it smooth cannot paint it because it is too rough.
Do you want to remove them,cover them?
If you are me, you live with them until it's time to resell the house, after I'm dead or in a nursing home. Only one room in our house has a flat ceiling and that's the small living room. Every other room's ceiling is vaulted, peaked, or broken up into several angles and levels. Hubby doesn't see the need to remove popcorn ceilings. But if you can do it, get rid of them. They were invented to reflect light and absorb noise. All they do for me is create dust and cobwebs so high I'll never reach the. Best wishes 😇
Before you do anything with your popcorn ceiling, check to see if it is asbestos.
You can scrape them down if not asbestos or you can paint them.
Hope that helps
: )
If you are going to scrape your ceiling get it wet first a spray bottle, wet it as you go .I hope it has`nt been painted. that will slow you down you may be left just scraping very hard work.
Hi Mary. If removing is not an option, you can repaint them. If wanting to remove: 1. Check to see if asbestos 2. If not, go for it. We purchased a spray container like the ones at Lowe's that you can put lawn chemicals in. Fill it with warm water. 3. Spray small area of ceiling with the water. Don't over water. 4. Let sit for a while. 5. Use scrapper, putty knife, etc. to lightly scrap popcorn off. 6. Let dry 7. Repair any areas that you scrapped to hard. 8. Get some drywall mud and mix with some water and roll a new ceiling design. 9. Paint with Kilz for any stains. 10. Paint with a ceiling white. We love our. Good Luck.
be sure to empty the room before scraping, it causes a big mess. But so worth it!
Very messy but we sprayed water on small areas and scraped it off;
