For thirty years I asked the owner of the lot next to mem to stop invading my property with overgrowth. I am elderly and can't clean my property like I did in the past. They will do nothing.

Does your city/county have a Neighborhood Services department? They are usually responsible for enforcing maintenance codes, and if you contact them they can probably issue a citation to the lot owner.

Contact your local Boy Scouts Club. They love to do community projects like this. But you will have to ask for them to help you install some kind of barrier to keep his weeds from invading your property. You can ask the owner if he would be willing to let the Boy Scouts help him also. You don't know that man's situation. He may not be able to clean this himself. God bless you.

I spend 90% of my gardening time trimming the blackberries, holly, ivy and other obnoxius plants that grow through my fence every year. For the alley behind me I get an Ivy & Blackberry herbicide in a bottle that attaches to the hose, and spray it which holds it at bay all summer. I also have Weed B Gone in a spray bottle that I attach to my hose, and spray my neighbors fence line since they won't trim it and they are old, so I also use my weed wacker on it.

The person you want to call at your City offices, is the Code Enforcement Officer. Sometimes they are in the police department, call regular #,, not 911.

Hello Beck; I am so sorry that you are having this problem!!!

Please contact the Police or Sheriff, depending whom is responsible for your area where you reside.

Explain the situation to them, and ask if they can do anything??

They will give you several suggestions, of they can not take any actions against the homeowner.

If I were you, I would tell the Sheriff point blank what you posted here.

I am hopeful that they will try to help you!!!

I hope that this helps you. Take Care!!

I would just spray along the property line with Weed-B-Gone and as long as you are only spraying your property they can't complain. Also a lot of times the Weed-B-Gone will travel and kill the entire plant.

Unfortunately, maintaining your property is your responsibility even if the overgrowth is from your neighbor. But that means you can remove it any way you want to (same applies to messes made from a neighbor's tree whose leaves drop on your lawn). If your property is pristine, it makes theirs look much worse. I feel really bad for you--- some people are just terrible neighbors and there isn't much you can do about it.

Your town may have an ordinance regarding care of one's property. One negligent neighbor can bring down the values in a neighborhood.
