We have a beautiful old post oak tree in our front yard that's in distress. Any idea how to save it? It's at least 25-30 years old.

Exactly what is the issue with the tree?Is it getting enough water? Is it losing leaves?Yellowing leaves?

I would contact a local tree service to determine what is causing the tree to be in distress. Is it diseased? Old? In need of trimming? Once you get that part figured out, you will be able to figure out what you need to do to help save it.

Have your county extension agent check to see what the issue can be and go from there.

I would consult a professional about helping the tree. If you cannot save your tree, you can have some beautiful pieces, made from the tree. We had an apple tree we planted when we first purchased our land in 1983. It recently died and we had to cut it down. I saved some of the wood and had three bowls made from the apple wood. One for each of my children and one for my hubby and me.

Trees die. I hated to lose our colorful Bradford Pear. And we had an oak tree that got hit by lightning twice and rotted completely in the trunk before we realized the tree was mainly standing on its bark!

I hope your tree can be saved. If not, I hope you can use parts of it like @SusanKMullins did, or that you can share firewood. If it haa to be cut down, see if you can get a company that removed stumps or at least grinds them to the ground. Best wishes 😇

It might be that its not possible to save your tree. I'd call a local arborist for professional advice, if I were in your shoes.
