To remove white rings left by wet glasses on wood furniture, mix equal parts vinegar and olive oil and apply it with a soft cloth while moving with the wood grain. Use another clean, soft cloth to shine it up. To get white water rings off leather furniture, dab them with a sponge soaked in full-strength white vinegar.

    Hello Judi,

I have found that the best way (and this sounds absolutely crazy but it works -- I will post a video to let you see for yourself), is to place a white folded tshirt over the water mark (no designs or writing on it -- just plain white bedcause one woman used a towel with a design and the dark design transferred to her light wood) and set your iron to high and slowly iron over the tshirt covered area until the stain comes up from the wood --- told you it sounds crazy LOL but it does work:

WOW, I wish I had seen this before I refinished mine! I had tried every other method I could find to no avail. I know that my white marks were caused from heat from plates and cups.

Both good suggestions, if they don't work you may have to refinish it like I did. I know the experts would probably disagree, however if I were to do it again, I would just lightly sand the spot, and dab on and wipe off the stain, and reapply until it matches as closely as possible. It is a pain redoing the whole top.

If you catch it right a way, a dab of mayonnaise on a rag works! Rub it in a circular motion. Otherwise I use Old English wood cleaner. It should also be rubbed in with a rag in a circular motion. It does not take much more than a dab or two on the rag. good luck!

Try this,...boil a small amount of water...add a couple of tea bags just long enough to get them wet all the way through...remove the tea bags and squeeze lightly so they are not dripping. Lay the tea bags over the white stains and leave for a few minutes. Depending on the wood surface, the tea will "stain" the light spot on your furniture. Be sure not to leave too long or it could cause moisture issues.

  • Have you tried mayonnaise yet?

The correct tools and chemicals are going to be key, Judi. You can probably find Howard products at places like Lowe's. Here's the company's website for your reference: http://www.howardproducts.com/

After you get the stains fixed, what you can do to protect the finish in the future is to use some paste wax and polish or to have a piece of glass cut to fit that table top (my personal preference). :-)

Try mayonnaise. The oil penetrates the spot and restores the color
