I want to buy a blue hydrangea for a pot do I need special soil?

Hello Sue; I have several Hydrangeas that are growing in my yard.

I started them in pots, before planting in the ground.

Here is what I did:

I use a large pot.

I mix together plain soil, peat, potting soil, cow manure, and some composted material.

I add some of the mixed soil to the bottom of the pot.

I add the plant and keep adding more of the mixed soil.

Water well, and you can keep the plant in a pot or you can replant it in the yard, once it is growing more.

Yes, a hydrangea will look lovely in a pot -- use a large pot. Hydrangeas like a rich, porous soil. Add compost to a poor soil. They want sun in the morning and some shade in the afternoon. Keep the soil fairly moist. Good luck!

Just remember that to keep they hydrangea blue, it has to have acidic soil. Most places with gardening area has fertilizer specifically for the different colored hydrangea bushes. Use it as directed only.
