How can I weigh down my cable spool coffee table?

I turned a cable spool into a coffee table a few weeks ago. I have a small baby crawling around and I want to weigh the table down so that she can't tip it over. There is a hole through the spool, but what can I place inside the bottom of it that will keep it from tipping?

Thanks!

Tikva, these tables are pretty heavy. I know I used them when my kids were young. (The youngest is 37 now) Is the table rocking when your baby pulls on it? You could try leveling off the bottom if it's not level now. If you want you could nail flat circle to the bottom and fill the center with rocks to hold it down. I personally don't the your baby will pull it over, but I understand a new mon's concern. In the meantime, don't let be in the same room with it when she's alone. I'm "my day" situations like this was why we had play pens. They worked to keep a child safe when we had to leave the room.

    Best of luck. :)

My best friend's Sister makes $95/hr on the laptop. She has been unemployed for 6 months but last month her income with big fat bonus was over $15k just working on the laptop for a few hours. Go this site and start your work... Good luck.... http://www.Jobzon3.com

You could put 4 of those ball feet on the bottom, cover the hole with a piece of plywood, and fill the center hole with rocks 3/4 of the way up. Then create a barrier between the rocks and the next level with a grocery sack and fill the rest of the way with something decorative and too big to be swallowed by a child.

    Hope that helps

Pick up a bag of decorative rock from the garden dept. and fill the hole partway till it seems heavy enough not to tip. Then I would stuff a piece of dark fabric in to keep baby from getting to the rocks. You can always dump the rocks out later to use for another project.

Look in the garden area and see what they have for outdoor tables and umbrella stands. My husband found and old iron stand that I use for my table. I like the rustic look and still has the function I needed. Check out junkyards, yard sales, estate sales and even flea markets.

Could also cover hole on the bottom and fill with some quikcrete...It dries super fast

I make a lot of spool stuff so try a trash bag and sand (rocks work too). Put the bag in the hole but leave enough of the bag out of the hole to fill with sand until you feel like it is not going to tip. Tie off the bag and push it in the hole. I have done this to an outside spool holding an umbrella and the wind couldn't blow it down.

Hope this helps you out and great job on your table too!

I'm not trying to be rude I just don't assume - have you personally seen it tip over

From what I can see in the photo, it looks like the base is smaller than the top. If this is the case, then that is the problem. Even using any of the good ideas people have suggested will not solve this unbalanced problem. My suggestion would be to turn the table OVER, so that the top becomes the base. Now, problem solved. Remember, this is temporary, until your baby gets older. Then you can make it nice again. :) Accidents happen. Spool tables are heavy. Do not take chances.
