Damaged bathroom counter top

The counter top in our bathroom is damaged. It has formica on the surface and I damaged it by standing a spray bottle which contained chemicals on it. The chemicals evidently ran down sides of bottle and took the color out of the areas it touched. Can I paint it?

  • Susan, you can purchase many different types, colors and styles of counter top paints at the big box stores. Many are used to repair and change up kitchen counters. There is no reason why these would not be successful in the bath.

I've know friends who have used the countertop resurface/repaint product and it has worked for them. I haven't personally used it but I'm pretty sure you can paint the countertop.
  • Depending upon how large the counter top is it may be 'cheaper' to buy a new vanity top than to buy the expensive products to repaint. These products are time consuming and if done wrong will not last. I have a great uncle who owns several income properties and who is licensed in resurfacing and he told me that with normal wear and tear the products last about 5 years and then have to be redone. there are always sales at home stores so you may want to keep checking out the closeouts and clearance deals. Who knows you may find a new top and vanity.

Thank you all for your solutions I am still debating as if I do the sink vanity top I also have to do my makeup vanity. We shall see.
