Refinished Furniture Extremes-Wood Purist or Funky Junky?

Refinishing furniture can be a "sore" subject for some. What is art really? What is best for the piece? What is beautiful? Is it Treasure or trash? @sassyrevamp tries to "hash it out" a bit. What do you think?

I love this. Would love to know how you did this.

Hi Amy! Thank you-it was so much fun to do :) I actually used this piece by Ana White as inspiration. http://ana-white.com/2011/08/reclaimed-wood-patchwork-multi-color I saw it and loved it and decided to apply a similar process on this unique table. I sanded and primed the entire piece. Then applied "beachy" colors in a patchwork pattern (dividing each side into 3 different sections so that it would all look like individual reclaimed wooden boards). Next I distressed heavily with a sander and by hand. I followed that up with Minwax Grey Driftwood stain on top of the painted areas to give it a weathered look. I then used stencils for the word beach and the sand dollars over the knob holes. The original knobs were wood, so I sanded and painted each pair a different color. Once dry, I attached them on areas with different colors for contrast. I then sealed the top with 4 coats of a brush on Poly for durability (sanding between each coat). The rest of the piece received 3 coats of wipe on Poly. Then off it shipped to its new home in FL! It was one of my favorites!
