Mod Podge and Heat

by Jennifer
I want to make a lampshade and I want to use mod podge but how will it hold up to the heat from the light bulbicon ? I have used all the mod podge types before but not in a way that would have that kind of heat so close to the product. What about a clear sealer over the mod podge?
Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated? Thanksicon

Thanks for the link but I'm not using a ready made shade, it would only be the stock paper with mod podge on it.

Mod Podge is a sealer. I have used it to attach fabric to lampshades in the past and have never had any issues with the sealer releasing. Hope this helps.

I know it's a sealer and I have used fabric on shades before (not with mod podge thou). I just want to make sure it won't melt, burn or catch fire being that it would be the shade.

Have you used paper and mod podge as an actual shade?

      Thanks for the suggestion.

Could you make a base for the shade using a material that is typically used for lampshades and then mod podge your design over it? Here is a paragraph on this and what you can use as a liner for the shade:

"Inspect other lampshades in your home or at a store, and you'll notice that the inside looks different from the outer lampshade covering. This inner lining helps provide a solid yet flexible structure for the lampshade fabric while also protecting it from heat emitted by the bulb. Pressure-sensitive styrene, also known as adhesive styrene, is the material used for the inside of many lampshades. This type of styrene is available at many craft stores or through lampshade supply retailers."

Okay, you sound like you have a very unique issue, hope it gets resolved for you!

Yes that is my problem, most shades are done with a protective material inside the shade. I have made many types of shades and have used that lining because of the heat from the bulb. This project isn't the same. I need it to be clear and I can only find white.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

Use the "hippie" light bulbs - they put off light but no heat.

I do a lot of decoupage and use Elmers glue. Including on lamp shades. There is no problem with the glue and the heat from the bulbs.

Oh, I wouldn't be worried if I was doing it on a shade but this will be a bit different and I think the LED light will work great for this project.

Thanks and your shades are great!

Where did you get the window pane for your project? I like the idea.
