Maybe, Spider plants do react to a build up of salt, fluoride, and chloride in the soil. Perhaps minerals build up as well.
Another reason for tips browning is allowing the soil to dry out too much between watering. It should only barely dry out on top.
If you live in a dry climate, keeping the spider plant near a sink or in the bathroom can help it retain a little moisture. A spray bottle of water for misting may help too.
Your brown tips are not going to rejuvenat, so you can trim them off.
Hope that helps
: )
Spiders really can tell you when they need watering as the color of the leaves go from a vibrant green to a grey-green. Brown tips are telling you that they are not getting enough water. Not just a cup on the surface, but they need deep watering. I take my plant to the sink and slowly drizzle water on it once a week from the tap for about an hour. That soaks the soil well and any run over goes right down the drain rather than on my carpet.
Thank you
It means that you haven't watered it consistently. What you want to do is water it thoroughly (until the water runs out of the drain holes) and then wait to rewater until the soil is no longer damp (DON'T let the dirt get totally dry!). Then water thoroughly again.
