How to stop branches from allowing new ones to sprout

I planted a bush and after a couple of yrs realized it wasn't the bush I thought it was. It was huge. I cut off the outside branches and then wrapped the smaller ones around the main straight branch to form more of a tree instead of bush. Was afraid to pull bush out as I didn't want to disturb the house foundation. Roots were pretty close. Of course now all this little branches want to bud on branches that were wrapped around. What can I do to help prevent this. Looks much nicer as a tree than it did as bush.

I think you need to rethink this - your comment on not wanting to disturb the house foundation makes me think that if the bush you are talking about continues to grow, the roots may disturb the foundation. Then you'd have a large costly problem. I'd remove the bush and plant something smaller.

  • Unless you stop watering altogether, you can't stop nature, your plant will continue to grow. If it is so close to the foundation of your house, and you are worried about it, move it now before it gets any bigger and does do real damage which can be quite costly. Make sense? Replace with something else and be certain it is appropriate for your conditions. As to the little buds, just trim them off if you are still trying to turn it into a tree. And plant in a location where it can flourish. Good luck!
