You can take the carpeting off easily enough - there will be a LOT of staples. Sand down the steps and use a good primer and paint - ask at your local hardware store which will be the best for that application.

Yes you can remove the carpet and take out the staples. The next step would be to check to see if you need to do any sanding. Go to your local home improvement store for paint suggestions and I would also think about putting a non slip protective coating on them.

I've made a lot of wrap skirts out of fabric I've collected and a REALLY nice denim one I made out of old blue jeans I sewed together into a large piece of fabric. I used the instructions I found on-line. Here is the website -- it is really easy to follow and wonderful. https://sewguide.com/make-wrap-skirt/

I would suggest staining rather than painting with the use stairs get. I would also suggest that if the steps are made out of pine, to get a pine board and practice on that to see how the wood will accept the color and how many coats of stain you will need to get the color you desire. Stain is not like paint.

If the carpet was glued down it'll be a lot of work. Since the treads & risers are pine you might want to consider replacing them rather than trying to pry up glued carpet, spending a lot of time getting the glue sanded off and all the boards level (after all that sanding). If you have the tools, it's pretty easy to make treads & risers or you can buy them (check around as the cost varies). Just a thought
