This moss is slowly covering my back yard. The area drains well and gets lots of sun.

But moss doesn't grow where there is no water, unless the whole garden has been sprinkled with natural Yoghurt? Dig out a pond to drain away from main garden.

Moss only grows in moist soil. I'd be looking at where the moisture is coming from. Any chance of a leaky pipe?

Heavy soil, lack of flowing air, and not enough hours of direct sun can help this grow. I suggest digging it out, adding new soil, and replanting. Since moss has shallow roots it should come up easily.

Hi Virginia - back in March I found this recipe for a weed killer that works as good as Round Up but is safe around kids and pets. The recipe calls for vinegar, liquid dish soap, salt, and liquid arthritus medicine. I got all of these for around $4 bucks at the Dollar Tree. Go to: chemistry catchet.com for exact info. Weed killer recipe by a chemist and I've have found it works like magic!
