I live in Wisconsin. And I love succulents. But I don't know if they will come back the next year if planted outside. Can you let me know the verities that will make it through our harsh winters.

Succulents have a lot of water in their leaves - they would most likely freeze; I don't think they would survive. Perhaps take some starts, grow them indoors over winter and then plant outside in the spring

  • You will need to dig them up and bring indoors. They are shallow rooted and do well in "bowl" type containers.

I live in Michigan and have seen some cacti growing outdoors here. They alwa get covered in burlap and paper. Check with your local landscapers. They may know which might survive. Best idea is to make small succulent gardens in your home to enjoy all year. Check out Logee's Greenhouse catalogue online. They have a wide assortment of really cute and unusual succulents.

Chicks and hens succulents survive Wyoming winters if they are planted in a place that gets lots of sun and protection from the wind like a corner of the house on the south side or west side. My neighbor has them and they are beautiful. They thrive and multiply in her garden next to her house
