Sometimes it's the little things that make a living room impressive. For instance, is there a focal point? In other words, when guests arrive, what is the first thing that catches their eyes or their focus? On the wall directly opposite them when they first walk in -- at eye level -- should be some beautiful artwork or perhaps a collage of photos. If a fireplace is there, perhaps a lovely vase perched on the mantle will do it. If it is artwork, use whatever bright color is in the painting and utilize it as an accent color in the room. That way, you have pops of color throughout your living room.
