i have a few different sanders...each for different jobs. the smallest is the mouse sander. small projects and touch up sanding. then there is the orbital sander- square pad its more of a finish sander, then there is the rectangular sander makes rough wood smooth. each motor is a different strength. then there are sanding blocks where a base will hold say 1/4th of a piece of sand paper. then there are sanding sponges great for sanding down trim pieces.

buy the best quality your budget allows, when you need to find that certain tool. ie get the tools as you need them.. not necessarily as a set.

Sorry. Didn't get to finish my question. It is a wooden table. I want something that will look like wood but be very resistant to water.

no one single sander...belt sander, large orbital sander and small palm sander, all three will be useful.

I have a mouse sander and I love it! It is light weight and very versatile. I've refinished a lot of furniture with it as well as using it for craft projects. Because of the pointed end it gets into corners and tight spots nicely. It also came with attachments for doing spindles and other hard to sand projects. It is also very affordable.

I have a 1.8V Craftsman palm sander. Had it for at least 15 years and still works as good as the day I purchased it. I also have a Bosch 12V Max litheon battery sander, comes with attachments. Works great on getting into corners and detail sanding. Batteries are a little pricey but worth it to get 2 of them so you always have a back up.
