  • Dig them out. Tedious but the best way without hurting your other plants. Or, if space allows, smother them with plastic, newspaper or cardboard.

Either pull vine at root or cut above so it can be pulled later. Vine will dry and

be easy to remove. If vine is bittersweet throw it in trash--very invasive!

Unfortunately you should pull the vine out and get all the root. Any little seed that comes off that vine will be up again next year.

I agree with Chubby58. The best way to get rid of them is to pull the vines AND THE ROOTS. If you leave any part of the root system, they will come back.

And, you can cover up your flowers while you do, best of luck!

also --- keep pruning to ground level, over and over and eventually the plant will die from lack of nutrients (that are supplied by the leaves- ) it may spring up somewhere else - keep cutting if removing by the roots will potentially damage other plants near by. some vines - such as our Smilax ( Damit Vine) have a HUGE! Tuberous root system that is virtually impossible to get up without major effort and damage to the ground.
