If you want to dispose of them, Marilyn, you would want to pull or dig them out because if you just chop them down with a weede eater, they will grow right back again. If you want to keep them from spreading then you must deadhead them to keep their seeds from dropping and spreading. As soon as the flower begins to wilt, pluck it off. That will keep the plants energy focused on the thriving flowers, too. Hope this helps. Thanks for using Hometalk :)
Thanks for your response if I want to keep them will a new plant form from the old stalk?
Trim them down.
I pull them up, but save the seeds to plant again
Hello Marilyn, if you want to get rid of them all together, you have to pull the plant out by the roots. if you want them to come back next spring, then just cut them off at the base of the plant and leave the root system intact. good luck.
