    Hello Bsweeney;

    You can use pretty much anything that you wish to make Awesome looking bookends.

    I have used dollar store animals that I painted and then glued to a base for a gift, for a young child. They were a Huge hit!!!

    I hope that these ideas are of help to you!!! Have fun and Take Care!

    Bricks, covered with fabric or paper, are nice and heavy. They can be painted. There are even different sizes and colors of them. Or find a large stone and have it cut in half.

    My husband cut me some pieces of block from an old beam we had and then I painted them and attached a glass jar to each one of which I put some fake flowers in them...they looked cool.

    Funny that you asked this question as we just bought a pair of bookends yesterday. We also have a lone sort of art deco looking bookend and sometimes I fantasize about making a latex mold, pressing clay into it and having my husband bake it in his kiln. In my world bookends are pretty easy to come across and we have lots of sculpture to use too!
