You would need to Clean Down . When Dry, SEAL the Bricks with Masonry Sealer first, otherwise it would attract Moss and any paint you put on the bricks would sink right in. etc. and be an annual job! Then use Exterior Masonry Paint. You may well need more than one coat.

I drove by a house yesterday that had been red brick, but they had painted it bright white with high-gloss black shutters. I think the door was red. It was BEAUTIFUL!

I saw an older brick home painted white. From what I could tell from first glance, it appeared as if it was white-washed. You could still see the outline and texture of the bricks which gave it an aged cottage look. It was quite charming in its setting.

I have never regretted painting my fireplace! It was a quick way to brighten up the family room.

I think if the brick is ugly or you don't like it, paint it. Might try an area of white washing and you can always move on to paint.

Great idea! I think it would be a wonderful change and also give it a 'fresh' look. With proper prep work, the painting should go smoothly. Remember: Mikey says "do it right" and you'll be a happy homeowner. Enjoy.
