Is the paint thinning from being cleaned or peeling from lack of adhesion?
If it is thinning from wear, you can wash well with TSP and repaint.
If it is peeling, you will need to sand and start over.
It is important to clean all the grease and grit off before painting and then allowing each coat to dry completely before recoating. Once you are done, a clear sealer will help reduce wear.

Make sure that every bit of grease and built up dirt has been removed before priming and painting. Use TSP cleaner, then sand to remove any shiny areas. Paint one coat of primer, then use kitchen and bath paint. Our cabinet paint lasted great for 8 years using this method.....
Be careful about sanding cause it'll thin out the wood! Paint always chips off cabinets. I just keep the same color paint and retouch as needed! That is, if you want to keep the same color. If you want to change the color then yes you'll have to strip the paint, prime it then apply your final color. I think applying primer is the key to keeping paint from chipping off!
We painted our cabinets with Nuvo cabinet paint in espresso (kind of an off-white). Haven't had any problems at all. The cans are small but they go a very long way - we used less than 2 full cans to do our entire kitchen and we have a lot of cabinets -- and they are solid wood and just soaked up the first few coats!
thanks so very much. where can i buy this product plus i also have many cabinets in my kitchen. did you use one coat or two coats or more. appreciate your help.
Did you prime the cabinets for good paint adhesion like Kilz or Zinsser. And be sure to degrease them really well.
it is peeling, did sand it last night, going to clean it today and probably clean it again tomorrow as we are set to paint on saturday. i do have semi gloss cabinet paint, but, maybe I should get gloss paint. this is hard work for me and with the dogs and cat, have to block out the kitchen from them. i wonder if gloss paint takes longer to dry then semi-gloss. this is latex paint. should i get white enamel paint instead as i need to paint frames around the three doors as well. thanks so much for taking your time to help. appreciate it.
Sherwin Williams makes kitchen cabinet paint. They also recommend a product to clean the cabinets first. The paint is self-leveling so you do not see brush marks.
