Chalk paint recipe

I'm up in the air about which chalk paint recipe to use. One recipe combines both calcium carbonate and plaster of paris to be mixed with water and added to the paint. Has anyone used this ? Just wondering what the benefits of using both are.

I have never done this however my suggestion for you is to do a trial run on scrap wood and see what you like best instead of askingg anyone else. what will work of some may not be of your liking

I've made chalk paint with plaster of Paris before, and since you also add a bit of water in the recipe, it dries in about the same time as normal paint. I even saved it for touch ups a month later and it still worked! I used the ratio of: 1 cup normal latex wall paint, 1.5 tablespoons cold water, and 2.5 tablespoons of plaster of Paris. Found the recipe on Pinterest. Great results, and because it's chalk paint you don't need to sand before you paint over any type of finish. You will likely want to wax or use a clear seal of some kind over the chalk paint to preserve your finish after you get it just right!

Plaster of paris is a good one to use when making chalk paint.

I wound up trying both recipes; one on each bookcase I was redoing. The first one was just CC added to the paint. It worked pretty well. For the second one, I used equal parts of CC and POP........hated the result! I used very hot water and mixed like crazy but still wound up with powdery lumps on the finished surface. I, also, noticed that the second recipe didn't stick near as well to the laminated surface I was painting. Live and learn......right?
