Great piece! I would use for extra blankets, pillows and linens or throws. Is there room in your bedroom? How about storing out of season clothes or seldom used items? I could also use it to store all my craft supply items. Could also use it to store all sorts of baking items, tins, etc. that I collect all year to use as give aways during the holiday season.
a humpback is hard because of the curved top. If you have room at the foot of a bed, it would be great storage.
Stand it up on the end, put some little bun feet on it and use it as a cabinet. Maybe put a shelf or two in it for storage , and a lamp on top of it.
I love old trunks - please, keep it as original as possible to maintain the value and integrity of the trunk. I'd use it at the bottom of my bed for blankets.
I think what you are asking is how best to use it and still maximize your space. I think it would be possible and not too difficult to have a top made for the chest so you can use it for storage and also have a handy top for display or storage. A carpenter could help you if you can't do the job. . . you need a flat board fastened to two kind of cleat supports that follow the shape of the curve on the top of the trunk and are straight on the tops It is definitely worth keeping as these are becoming very rare.
