What should I do with this ugly wooden paneled "feature" wall?

It looks like the wood was an addition. Can you easily remove it? If not you can disguise it by painting it the same color as the other walls. you will wan to seal them of at least use some Kilz on it so the paint will stick and the stain won't go through. That doesn't fix your problem of what to do with the space, though. I would try to find or make a book case or storage unit that filled the entire space between the window and the little wall. Maybe it could be used to store cook books, place mats or holiday dishes. When my children were smaller, we had something like that where they kept all the supplies they needed to do homework like colored pencils, glue sticks and extra paper.

Wow that wood wall is anything but ugly right now! Look at the Stikwood website for ideas. Cabinets look dated as well as the hanging lights but don't touch that wood wall! Change out the lighting and perhaps replace or add a surface to the doors to get rid of the arches. Those handles need to go too. Add some floating shelves and make a coffee station, home bar, or buffet area. Not into floating shelves, add a large round mirror. What a great space!

Chalk paint is your best friend. No prep needed except a good wash. Two coats should cover it. You can even add wax at the end to give it a washed look.

I personally love that wall, this is your anchor starting point, here's a few pictures below t tie it all together. I would buy and paint open style China cabins place or two tone buffet on legs with a very large mirror to accent that wall, then buy a farm style table set wth a bench and large rug under it. Then start laying accent things fir the kitchen and that area. I hope you enjoyed my ideas😊📌

If you love the cabinet and lighting is new, by all means work with them. I generally work around quality pieces first before I just jump on a current trend. But you do have a nice space to work with and wood accent walls are all over the internet right now. Upper cabinets will always be an option if you need the storage....but alas, upper cabinets are going away too. Your space could be right on trend without any big changes! Perhaps it is just a balance/placement of cabinet and lights? Center the cabinet? Or run a floating shelf from the left wall to the end of current cabinet location?

Do you think maybe something big, like a mirror and then put a shelf running underneath the mirror a few inches below?i think it will space it out a bit. Yes definitely will centre the cabinet and I like the idea from Barb to place legs underneath. The more I look at this photo the more ideas I am coming up with along with all of your ideas!!

Do a wash in an accent color. Not white. I agree in placing a large mirror on the wall. Or a collage of picture frames. They don't need to have photographs within them to look nice. You can pick them up at the dollar store and paint them a single color.

I would keep the wood. Look in some home decor books wood panels are back. I have the same redwood panels put up in the '80's and still love it.

I think you have a great start, all you need is more decor on the walls. Your idea of a large mirror and shelf would look nice. Get the shelf wide enough that you can put candle sticks or something similar on it, along with frames , so you have different heights. Did you decide to add legs? That should look nice, makes it look more like furniture than a built in. Use lighter colors in the accessories and the dark wood will be a good backdrop.

I have picked up some frames and looking for a shelf. Hubby said ditch the cabinet 😂 and buy a table with legs:)

Do you need a nice breakfast nook? I would build an L-shaped storage bench along the wood wall and under the window. Get a nice farm table. Then if the wood bums you out, I would whitewash it.

And the little drop lights are up way to high, get longer pole extensions to bring them down.

Another option would be to make a large pantry in the area. Get some shelving and bi-fold doors.

I FINALLY got the nerve to paint it! Lol ! I am going to add feet to the hutch and a dark colored clock, shelving and spme pictures. I’m still putting it together but the hardest part is done!
