There isn't a whole lot of insects that bother evergreens. But when they do, you can get them identified by on line sources or nursery. Soap solutions can injure evergreens ( soap burn). Since you didn't mention where exactly the dead areas were, one thing it could also be is salt burn if it's lower branches near roads and walkways or possibly chemical burn from weed killer or dog or cat urine. They could also be diseased, but not common either. So search those limbs for insects! Given time they will fill in again, it's just personal choice if you want more. But identify the problem first or it would be passed on to new plantings. Good luck!
Most evergreens shed leaves on season and some branches dries up. But the tree is still healthy.
