Repurpose this table

Hi, I've had this table sitting in my basement for years. I'm thinking of painting and putting it my slightly country themed powder room. Any recommendations? I was thinking distressed turquoise or white. Thanks in advance!

What are your current powder room color? I think a green color would look nice in a country themed room. Maybe do a grain sack graphic on the bottom shelf or across the drawer .

My powder room is gray. We just painted it. I never thought of green and I love the idea of grain sack graphic!

I forgot to post the pic of the powder room lol
  • Go for the turquoise!

White would look great with the details, especially if you highlighted them with dark wax.

I personally like the front wood grain and detail. Maybe paint/distress the top and bottom shelf in the turquoise and lightly sand and wipe on poly the rest( if it's in good condition)

Now that I saw your powder room my creative juices are flowing ! Not sure my original suggestion of green would be a good color. What do you think of a darker grey all over then a little light sanding here and there along the edges of the legs, drawers and sides of top. Then take a slightly watered down white with a small amount of your grey mixed in and wipe it on the sanded edges and wipe off. This will give you a different distressed look. Then do a graphic on top. Sound like a lot if work but it really isn't. Good luck and I can't wait to see the fabulous results. I'm sure whatever you choose it will be wonderful.

The top looks a little worn, maybe sand it first-then wax or paint-lots of people are using chalk paint which looks like the paints been there a while or authentic, maybe give it a distressed look using the turquoise & white.

My answer these days is always Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Check out some videos of it. And I'm thinking either Old White, Paris Grey, or Duck Egg Blue for a color. Your decor looks a little rustic or vintage, so distressing it a little, and some dark wax, would really look awesome. And the indented detail on the wood would stand out if you use some dark wax. The stuff is not cheap but it is SO worth it! If you can't find a dealer near you, you can order it online from a dealer.

I'd try to get it as close to the wood grain of the "window" picture frame you have hung on your wall, and would paint the top a vibrant color, and distress the edges a bit. Pick your favorite color and do it ~ it's your powder room and it'll make you happy every time you see it! I noticed the top is slightly cracked in places, don't forget to use paintable wood filler! Hope you'll post pictures when it's done.

A perfect piece for chalk paint. I like color with gray, especially a burlap color or plum.

I personally wouldn't mess too much with the integrity of the piece because it is gorgeous as is. I would give it a light sanding, refresh the stain then use a clear poly coat or a sealer. When you find wood that is still in such good condition you want to show it and not cover it up with globs of paint.

LOVE the table - whatever you do, you might consider trying something that will keep the great trim/carving across the bottom visible. I love green too - you could try your own "chalk paint" - mix some of the gray you painted your bathroom with, with some green to give a light tone, and chalk paint it, then distress the edges to bring out a little of the wood color . . . What ever you do - POST A PICTURE of the finished product! Love it! Good luck!

Carrie & Carolann, I agree totally with you. BUT if "painting" is a must, try white oak stain. It lets the grain shine thought without ruining it with heavy paint. Accent with your favorite accessories, plant or fresh flowers or..... those you can change with a whim!

I like the idea of the poly or sealer - but I've seen pieces with darker stain in some areas - like on the greek key detail - to make it stand out.

Paint the table a darker gray version of your wall color. Add vintage porcelain towel bars to each side. A couple of vintage pewter pieces to hold supplies and you have a flat surface near the sink! Stack white hand towels on the shelf below and hide the unattractive but necessaries in the drawer.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm going to start sanding this weekend I think and then maybe get an idea of what I want to do with it color wise. I love so many of the ideas it'll be hard to go with any one suggestion lol.

It is beautiful. I would not paint and distress. Bring out the natural beauty. Just one idea of many. Let us know which way you go.
