Hi, I am thinking about restaining my table. I would like to do it in a variety of small coloured sections about 3inches x 1inch for each colour. I would like it to have a waterpaint or chalk looking effect.
If you have any clue what so ever that I am talking about can you please advise me on how to achieve this look.
With Thanks
Jaque.

Mark out your pattern with tape, Use either sort of paint, when you have all the paint dry, pull off the Tape and Wax the whole table or use Flat Polyurethane varnish.

If you want to stain, you will need to prepare your surface by stripping the wood or sanding. Are you using color stains or wood hued stains? If you are using wood hued stains you can purchase light and darker shades and mix a small amount to come up with many variations in the color. If you are using a product like Unicorn Spit you can do the same thing to avoid the expense of many different color purchases. The areas you are staining are very small and you will need to be very careful to avoid stain creep under your tape. You might consider a stencil instead of all that taping of hundreds of small rectangles. Good luck!
