What is the most important thing to do to your lawn after you have had it aerated, besides water.

"Once the lawn has been aerated, clear away the plugs, spread a layer of organic matter such as compost or soil conditioner over the lawn, and water it in. The organic matter seeps into the holes left by the plugs, improving the soil's texture." The last two sentences in the article answer your question but the rest of the article is pretty interesting too, I think. Hello! After aerating, allow anything pulled up from under the grass to dry for a day. Then rake. Afterward, overseed or top-dress the yard. Top-dressing means adding a thin layer of new soil to even out or fill in areas where needed. The overseeding is typically needed since lack of aeration likely caused the grass roots to suffocate from lack of air circulation. You may have noticed patches in your lawn where the grass just isn't growing in nice and thick anymore.
