I rescued 2 matching chairs. Loved the legs so I used them to make a bench. This project didn't cost me much because I used salvaged materials and things I had on hand. See more at my blog when you follow the link.
Here is the bench with the salvaged chair legs.
Here is one of the broken chairs.
Here are the legs.
I used 2 layers of foam and 2 layers of batting. Cutting holes in all the padding helps create the tufts and ensures the screws don't get caught.
Some leftover drop cloth fabric was placed on top. Then I began the tufting process by lining up the screws/washers with the cut out holes in the foam.
I cut down some scrap 2x4's to the dimensions I wanted. The corners were built for the legs to fit snug and in line with the 2x4's. Wood glue and screws were used to hold the 2x4's and the corner brackets together.
The buttons were old tufted buttons I recovered with drop cloth and glued in place over the screws. Finishing off the sides with nail head trim added a touch of interest.
Don't pass up those broken chairs! There is so much you can use them for.
