You can usually use a wrench- Channel Locks or Crescent wrench if you can fit it in there. If not buy a wrench replacement. I see them going for $4 at Sears and Walmart.

hi hillela -- so, how exactly do i tighten it??? is it the small round gizmo that i tighten, or bend the metal that goes around the bulb?? thanks

Is it the kind of shade that has two round metal wires that clamp over the bulb? Then just take the shade off and bend the wires to fit tighter. That is what I do when I have that type of shade.

May have to use pliers to squeeze the little gizmo holding the wires.
