When I saw this cute little vanity for sale, I imagined a little girl sitting there playing dress-up. Of course, not the way it looked, but the way it COULD look! I immediately knew I wanted to paint it a soft pink, but after I started sanding, I decided I wanted to do something a little fun with it!
Here was the ad that caught my eye! Just look at the potential of this gem. I spend a lot of time trolling garage sale fb pages, letgo, offerup, and stopping anywhere we see furniture for sale. lol
Sanding is always my first step...then base coating. Here is where I decided to jazz it up a bit, and used a bright magenta as the base coat! Don't you love the choices of spray paint? (Rustoleum is my favorite brand). Then came the soft pink chalk paint. Yes, that small brush pictured is what I used. Keep in mind that it generally takes two to three coats of chalk paint to get good coverage. Make sure you purchase enough to finish project. Also, don't forget to put hardware somewhere SAFE and easy to find! I save those plastic gum containers and use those...we chew a lot of gum. lol
Look at how distressing allows the magenta to show through. I generally use small pieces of fine grit (320) sandpaper to do my distressing. I love the control I get. I also sand the entire piece (gently) because it gives the chalk paint a silky, smooth finish!
I really wanted the drawer to stand out...decoupage to the rescue! I had this scrapbook paper in my stash, and it matched perfectly! I did pick up a new knob from Hobby Lobby to finish it off. Of course a coat of poly to protect that new finish.
And here she is in all her new found glory. This piece went to a new home for a young lady to enjoy!
