Seed Storage & Organization

With the weather warming up a little this week, and daily reminders from Smart Gardener reminding me to start seeds indoors, I've started thinking about how I want to store and organize my leftover seeds.
I found this great organizer at Michael's for $6.99 CDN. Each of the storage containers are tiny tic tac box-like plastic containers that are perfect for storing seeds. And the best part about using these containers to store seeds? My handy dandy label maker tape fits perfectly along the side of the container.
Seeds need to be stored in air tight (but not vacuum sealed) containers to preserve their longevity. With these containers labelled and back in their case, it's easy to see which seeds to pick, which are low in numbers and need to be re-ordered.
The only problem with these, is that there isn't really a great way to include the original package. The seed packages have important (and handy) information on the envelope. One solution is to create a label with the 'online number' of the seed (or other details) for the other edge of the container. Then, you can either research the seeds online (if you're purchasing from a larger supplier) or still be able to reference details in short-form. My plan right now is to put the details for each seed (from their package) in a gardening 'journal' or binder, for easy reference in the future. This is a great idea if you plan on re-purchasing seeds and want to take note of difficulties with the seeds, things to remember, etc.
Do you use a gardening journal?! Any great seed storage ideas, or organization tips? Favourite seed stockists? (I'm hoping to start purchasing from more 'indie' producers - there are some great Canadian ones on Etsy.)
