If you have a lot of shade in your yard it may contribute to the algae problem, to keep it from coming back maybe trim some trees so that the pool gets some more sun. There are also many algicide products on the market. I would suggest visiting your local pool supply store, not just a bog box home improvement. Go to your pool supply store with a sample of the water - they will run it and let you know what chemicals needed to straighten out. They also have a stabilizer now that you put in your skimmer basket that will help maintain your chem levels and keep it from burning off during the sunny parts of day. Your probably gonna need to SHOCK the pool to rid of algea then maintain chem levels so it doesn't come back. -

We had the same issue with our pool. It was the horrible mustard algae. Add enough acid to bring the pH below 6.0 and maintain that level for 24 hours. That will kill the algae. Brush and rinse your pool filters and run the filters constantly for 24 hours after the algae is dead. Your pool will look horrible after you loosen the dead algae and will be extremely cloudy. You may have to rinse your filters more than once during that 24 hour period to filter out all the tiny particles. ...» -
Forgot to mention that your shock should have a flocculant in it, so that it binds the tiny algae particles together and can more easily filter them out. -
